Nirmaan
Nirmaan is an AI IDE I am building in India to make the process of turning an idea into working software feel faster, clearer and more useful.
The name Nirmaan means construction or creation. It felt right because that is what the product is meant to help people do: build. Not just generate code, but understand a project, make decisions, move through problems and turn rough ideas into real products.
What Nirmaan is
Nirmaan started from Code - OSS, but the goal was never to stop at a rebrand.
The larger idea is to build an IDE where AI feels like a real part of the development process instead of a separate chat window sitting beside the code. It should understand the project, help plan work, make changes, explain what it did and stay useful across the entire workflow.
Right now, it is still an early-stage side project. A lot is changing quickly, but the direction is becoming clearer with every part that gets rebuilt.
What has been done so far
The product has been fully rebranded from Code - OSS to Nirmaan across the application identity, CLI, deep links, installer metadata, package identifiers and documentation.
The app name, command-line name, protocol, data folders, Windows and Linux identifiers, package metadata and installer details have all been updated so Nirmaan can exist as its own product instead of behaving like a renamed local build.
The original branding has been replaced throughout the application, including app icons, in-product assets, authentication-related visuals, watermarks and supporting resources.
The onboarding experience has also been rebuilt. The old walkthroughs were renamed, the Copilot and Microsoft-focused video pitch was removed, and a new greeting sequence was introduced using Indian languages with Nirmaan as the central identity.
Work has also started on a dedicated agents window similar to the agent interfaces seen in newer AI IDEs. The intention is to make agents a first-class part of the product rather than hiding them inside a basic chat panel.
The workbench has been cleaned up, product terminology has been updated, unnecessary references to the original product have been removed, and the build pipeline and installers have been updated to support Nirmaan builds.
The repository is active, and the project is still moving quickly. Screenshots, builds, testing access and release information will be added here as the IDE becomes ready for broader use.
Where it is going
The long-term direction is an IDE where AI agents can understand the codebase, plan tasks, edit files, explain decisions and work with the developer across the entire project.
The goal is not to make another editor with AI added on top. Nirmaan should gradually become an environment designed around how developers actually work with AI now.
For the moment, the focus is simple: make the core IDE stable, useful and clearly different, then keep building from there.
Open source
Nirmaan is being built in public, and the repository is available on GitHub. The codebase, technical direction and development progress can be followed there.
